1000 Words Thursday!
This is my dog. He was my "first" child. He died last winter after 9 great years and 6 months of pain. Emma loved him. He followed her everywhere she went. He will be hard to replace!

Grrrr
A few pics....not "in love" with any furniture arrangements yet. I probably won't be until I have new furniture that fits the space, but that's many years down the road and I'm totally o.k. about that!
My coat closet with hooks instead of hangers. You can see low hooks in the bottom right hand corner for little people!

Thankful...
If I don't have anything to be thankful for this year...boy do I need to reexamine my life!
I am thankful for....
Great Family and Friends
Sweet and Spicy Children!
Vancey poo
Having a job I love...most days!
A new house, designed my husband and I.
Beautiful weather on November 26th!
Parents that have been married for 30 YEARS!
A sweet co-worker that watched my class so I could go watch my son be a pilgrim!
And so much more....
What are you thankful for?

Update
Just to let you know...
99% of our boxes are unpacked. We started hanging things last night. Something my husband was not very happy about, but I threatened to pound holes myself! It's looking pretty good. I still need to work on the living room a little, we're waiting on more backsplash, and can't wait to finish the trim. After that, we'll be sitting pretty!
My kids are loving their new rooms. They are both sleeping great, but apparently sleeping alone is thirsty business, b/c they come down for a drink. They will have a cup on their respective sinks tonight.
It's a little surreal to walk out into that huge living room and know it's mine. Feels like I'm visiting when I watch t.v. and I'm still loving washing dishes. I know all of this will end, but I'm going to enjoy it for now!

Profound
My sister-in-law Dana sent this to me. Thanks Dana....
Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven't thought about it, don't have it on their schedule, didn't know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine.
I got to thinking one day about all those women on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to cut back. From then on, I've tried to be a little more flexible.
How many women out there will eat at home because their husband didn't suggest going out to dinner until after something had been thawed? Does the word 'refrigeration' mean nothing to you?
How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched 'Jeopardy' on television?
I cannot count the times I called my sister and said, 'How about going to lunch in a half hour?' She would gas up and stammer, 'I can't. I have clothes on the line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known yesterday, I had a late breakfast, It looks like rain.' And my personal favorite: 'It's Monday.' She died a few years ago. We never did have lunch together.
Because Americans cram so much into their lives, we tend to schedule our headaches. We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to ourselves when all the conditions are perfect!
We'll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Steve toilet-trained. We'll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet...
We'll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college.
Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer.
One morning, we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of 'I'm going to,' 'I plan on,' and 'Someday, when things are settled down a bit.' When anyone calls my 'seize the moment' friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for five minutes, and you're ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Roller blades and skip an elevator for a bungee cord..
My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. It's just that I might as well apply it directly to my stomach with a spatula and eliminate the digestive process
The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-Decker. If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy.
Now...go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to......not something on your SHOULD DO list.
If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting? Make sure you read this to the end; you will understand why I sent this to you.
Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or listened to the rain lapping on the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight or gazed at the sun into the fading night?
Do you run through each day on the fly? When you ask ' How are you?' Do you hear the reply?
When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head?
Ever told your child, 'We'll do it tomorrow.' And in your haste, not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch?
Let a good friendship die?
Just call to say 'Hi?
When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift....
Thrown away.....
Life is not a race Take it slower.
Hear the music before the song is over.
It's National Friendship Week..
Show your friends how much you care.
Life may not be the party we hoped for... but while we are here we might as well dance!

Secrets
Sparkle
Lots of my house has sparkle now. Bree and I cleaned windows, walls, floors, cabinets, and tubs tonight. Bree did windows and walls. I did cabinets and tubs. I also unpacked about 8 boxes including 4 heaping baskets full. It's so much easier to carefully move a basket of glass coffee mugs than to wrap each one individually. No backsplash yet, hopefully tomorrow...
To tide you over....
Enough lights to tan....

Recessed medicine cabinet. I highly recommend them, but you have to tell your contractor the measurements way back when he is studding the walls. That's a long time to think ahead. Good thing I got the idea from HGTV!
Quick Update
Hello Friends....
A quick update!
I am at the farm every night this week cleaning and unpacking. I put some of my dishes away last night. That was awesome. It seems to me that my cabinets are very TALL...so if your short bring a stool:) I can't wait to see my backsplash tonight! That is so exciting to me. And complete countertops tomorrow or Thursday. Also, appliances tomorrow or Friday. Tonight, I will take over some more boxes and unpack them...all the while compiling a HUGE shopping lists. A little overwhelming preparing 4 bathrooms for use after being used to 1 for 9 years! I have to have t.p., shower curtains, hand soap, toothpaste, trashcans, shower liners, etc, etc....
Side Note: My Colby has two teeth coming in and no sign of the baby teeth loosening. I had the same problem and his dentist said it would change his bone structure if they didn't come out. So, we have an appt. with an oral surgeon in December. Lucky Colby. It kind of stinks b/c the tooth fairy won't be nearly as great, but their going to put him completely out...so he doesn't freak out. We have a consult on the 18th to "meet" the dr. and then the 22nd is the big day.
K, off to do grade cards. Maybe pics tomorrow if I have time....

Butterflies...
I have butterflies...in my tummy!
I think it's from all the excitement!
I can't wait to move!
This morning, while my husband was on the phone at 6 AM, I kept thinking...in my new house I won't have to hear him b/c he can go to some other room 45 FEET away!
I also can't stop thinking about the Ulrich's moving. Wow! I have grown to love them all. What a wonderful contribution to our community and a great example to me. I have often looked to them to see how a Christian family lives...no pressure:) I will miss little "Shnooky", he is the sweetest. I think a big party is in the makings...
Parties? I think I am going to love throwing them now! I have a tentative date for Vance's 30th set for February 28th. Also, I'm planning (in my head) a thank you/housewarming party for everyone that helped us. Can't decide when though. Christmas is going to hit us hard and fast this year. Especially with Jenn and the baby. Might have to be after Christmas. It could be a thank you/housewarming/new year's eve party! Then I'll have Emma's b-day....how fun!
I get to move some things tonight. Whoo Hoo!

Great Grandmas are a blessing!
My mom called yesterday and wondered if the kids would like to go see Winnie the Pooh LIVE at Ottumwa. I think she really wanted an excuse to go and children was her best bet. The really enjoyed the show...had great seats...and grandma time!
Gettin High...
A few pics of the progress. Our bathroom is finished. The countertops are in and the sinks and the faucets. We are waiting on the backsplash, but that is minimal. The recessed medicine cabinets are awesome. So glad I did that. I also need to find a mirror for my vanity area, but I think i can make do for awhile:) There are so many lights, I've been told I could tan in there!
Our t.v. I love that it is up high and I can see it from the kitchen.

hardwood floors through the dining room, living room, kitchen.Sanding...I couldn't get the picture to flip. We both took turns. It took a long time!
Varnishing. We were up until 1AM! I didn't do much, but I was there. I would have felt bad nice and warm in my bed while he slaved away. Even though I was just there for conversation purposes. It's kind of like when you hear that footstool go up and your cleaning up the kitchen. How frustrating....just keep me company!
The big one....
Vance couldn't let Colby show him up. He shot this on opening morning after varnishing our hard wood floor until 1 AM. He's pretty proud!
