Do you have a side of the bed?
Do you ever switch?
Vance and I do...
It's so strange.
We've almost been married for 11 years and every 2 or 3 years we switch sides. Both times I was pregnant we did a swap.
Just in the last two nights I've been sleeping on his side of the bed. I just thought it looked more comfy.
He always said my side was bigger, so we'll see what he thinks now:)
While we're on the subject of spouses, I have a question for some of you wives out there. I've been watching the Duggers and their oldest Anna and Josh have been married for a while now. All of a sudden, on the show, Anna is calling Josh...Joshua. Why is that? I have some friends that do that too. We all call their husband by their nickname, but they always say the full name. I'm confused. What should I say? Just a curiosity thing...if anyone can shine some light for me that would be great!

no we don't switch sides. there are times that i will fall asleep on his side, but i always end up on my side. weird! and yes the name thing is kind of odd. sometimes i feel like i am calling them by the wrong name.
We have never switched sides of the bed. The thought of it kind of weirds me out actually, but I had a side of the bed before I had a husband to fill the other side.
As for the name thing I have one theory. I know Steve sometimes wishes that he hadn't started using a nickname instead of his full name and this is also the case with some friends of ours. So if the husband prefered the full name I can see why the wife does it. I should probably do this for Stephen, but I just can't get use to it. Sounds very foriegn to me.
Second theory: Sometimes I think wives do this to assert the fact that their relationship with their husband is special. Like by calling them by their full name that no one else uses it highlights their closeness with that person. I personally think that doesn't make sense b/c the name they use is actually more formal, but I can see where someone might think it's more intimate.
Just my crazy theories.
We've switched sides of the bed every single time we've moved...but not just randomly switched. That would be weird for me b/c all my "stuff" (accumulated junk) is on my side of the bed.
As for the name thing, I call Trenton by his full name when a lot of others call him Trent. I use to call him Trent. Until, Christmas about 4 years ago when I was putting names on stockings and said...do you want Trent or Trenton? His reply: my name isn't Trent, why would I want that on there?
So that was when I learned that he really doesn't like being called Trent, but doesn't want to be rude by telling people that. Apparently, we were at a point in our relationship where he thought it was ok to be rude to me so he didn't have to listen to it for the next 50 years! Unfortunately, my whole family calls him Trent cause that's what I said in the beginning. :(
It's funny, because we call James Jones, James and ya'll call him Jim. We call him James, because we got to know him through Amee and she calls him James. Whereas, most of you probably got Jim from the guys at work.
When we lived in town in our rental house and when we moved into our house now we stayed on "our sides". His was always closer to the door and mine was by the night stand. This fall we moved the bedroom furniture around and my side ended up being right beside the door. Even tough we didn't switch sides it still feels weird.
Had the same side of the bed for over 25 years. Strangely enough, I still sleep on the same side even though there isn't anyone on the other side.
A-net
We've switched sides once in 17 years! :)
And I have NEVER called Alan "AL". I agree with Erin--Tri Co gives guys nicknames (J-Rod, Vancey, Jimmy, Al, etc)
But hmmm, dunno about the Duggars, haven't watched them--interesting though!
